Melbourne Rapid Fields (MRF) is an automated software designed for home-monitoring and early clinic-based detection of vision problems caused by the following conditions:
- Age-related macular degeneration
- Macular oedema from diabetes or retinal vein occlusion
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Neurological conditions that affect the visual field (including multiple sclerosis, optic neuritis)
During the COVID-19 pandemic it is highly recommended for use in clinical settings, instead of using viewing-dome type or goggle type visual field devices that make direct contact with the patient’s face and aerosolised droplets potentially spreading infection between patients.
Developed by Dr Algis Vingrys and Dr George Kong in partnership with The University of Melbourne and the Royal Eye and Ear Hospital Melbourne, MRF visual field software provides a portable, rapid and accurate threshold testing of visual field for patients with eye and neurological conditions, on multiple platforms including tablet, laptop and PC.
MRF software is registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia as a perimetry device and is designed to perform vision and visual field testing online for the purpose of allowing patients to monitor vision at home. In a time when Telehealth is so crucial, MRF also allows the practitioner to diagnose and/or monitor changes. Doctors/optometrists/general practitioners can also perform visual field tests for patients in the clinic.
The MRF allows threshold-testing on any PC, Mac or tablet. Patients can easily perform the tests within minutes, online, with test results visible to their consulting clinician.
Contact Designs For Vision to find out how you could use MRF in your clinic as well as how you can provide a Telehealth solution for your patients using MRF.
